Wind Rush Estate

Our story

A New Start

Our family wished to realise the dream of being part of something bigger than our urban reality and we found the draw of the country irresistable. The Mary Valley presented an attractive opportunity to set up our small farm and cottage. After a lifetime of appreciation we also were able to realise a dream of establishing our own small batch vineyard. Whilst undertaking a Diploma of Viticulture, it was soon realised we would only have a chance if we drew upon the knowledge of others. After speaking to many viticulturalists in the Burnet, one varietal stood out as a natural for the Mary Valley. Tempranillo is a light red varietal originating from the southern and central wine growing regions of Spain. Tempranillo, meaning early ripener, made sense with the summer rains and humidity found in the Mary Valley. We established our first block in November 2016 and have had 3 plantings since then. 2019 saw our first taste with a small batch vintage underway. None of this would have been possible without the advice, help and hardwork of our friends, neighbours and family, our Viticulturalist Peter Stewart, nursery Viticulturist Nick Dry from Yalumba Vineyard Nursery and Tim and Amber Scott from Kandanga Farm Store.

  • Our Vision

We wish to celebrate estate Viticulture and winemaking, which embraces biodynamic principles and with support of the local community.
  • Community

The Mary Valley district has been rebuilding since the upheaval caused by the forced aquisition by the governement at the time for a proposed dam. Small local agricultural enterprises are slowly breathing life back into the Valley. We hope to give back to this community which has supported our development.
  • Innovation

We have been able to utilise modern technology for monitoring and controling inputs in line with local conditions. We have also been able to bridge both traditional and modern production idealogoy. We hope to further this with biodynamic production processes which will produce a unique offering.
  • Winemaking

At present we are in early stages of small batch production, We will develop this to a complete on site estate production facility.
